48 Hours of Things to Do in Gothenburg Sweden

Gothenburg (or Göteborg in Swedish) is the second-largest city in Sweden, home to Volvo, a busy port town by the sea, and a foodie destination.  Gothenburg is located on the west coast of Sweden, southwest of Stockholm.  Gothenburg’s points of interest are mostly centered in the city center, but travel by tram and bus outside the city center and you will find some pretty unusual off-the-beaten-path attractions too.  We’ve put together the following guide of 48 hours of things to do in Gothenburg to get the best out of this Swedish city in a short period of time.

Part of having a perfect vacation in Sweden is staying at the perfect hotels in Sweden.  We spent two weeks traveling through Sweden, starting in Sweden’s capital city Stockholm for history, then spending time in Swedish Lapland hunting for the Northern Lights and enjoying outdoor winter activities, stopping in Gothenburg in West Sweden for seafood, and finishing for one last night in Stockholm before heading home.  During our travels through Sweden, we stayed at five beautiful, comfortable, and unique hotels in Stockholm, Jukkasjärvi, Kiruna, and Gothenburg. 

Sweden’s Newest Michelin Starred Restaurants in Gothenburg

Stockholm may be the capital city of Sweden, but Gothenburg is Sweden’s food capital and was actually voted as such in 2012.  Gothenburg, Göteborg in Swedish, recently added to its culinary accolades by gaining two more Michelin stars.  Gothenburg already boasted four Michelin-starred restaurants: Bhoga, Restaurang 28+, Sjömagasinet, and Thörnströms Kök. On February 26, 2015, Michelin announced its 2015 stars for Scandinavia and added two more Michelin starred restaurants to Gothenburg’s list: SK Mat & Människor and KOKA.
